A mission in searching for a S-Guard barricade in Japan!!

A barrier preventing motorcycle is also known as S-Guard barricade. It is a novel innovation brought to you by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) in an attempt to prevent motorists driving on the sidewalk. This weird thing is increasingly enlarging in scale throughout the city of Bangkok, especially at the major intersections. The point is that I have a strong belief that those authorities, who have the power to initiate this execution, might perhaps derive this idea from Japan where the innovation already existed. It might appear interesting in their eyes. However, it’s just a superficial inspiration and lacks scrutiny on …

A seemingly last optional alternative like the overpass is still wheelchair-friendly

The overpass, an innovation for pedestrians to safely cross a street. It’s considered safe and convenient yet highly inaccessible for some if built unintelligently like many footbridges in Thailand where wheelchair users are completely unable to use it. For developed countries, that might have passed the primitive state of trial and error, they recognise the limitations of the overpass and try to minimize its usage if possible. Last year, I visited Japan to see some of its fantastic infrastructure, including the overpass. Believe it or not, the entire 15-day time that I was touring around central Japan, any flaws in accessibility …

Thumbs Up!!! An excellent accessible parking at underground parking, Mega Bangna/Blue Zone

Mega Bangna is the only shopping mall in Thailand that its quantity of accessible parking exceeds the minimum requirement by law. Months ago, we had intensively received numbers of reports about the misuse of priority parking, especially at its underground parking, Blue Zone. We decided to conduct a field work there so many times and have a honest talk with security officers who was in charge there.

The moment that Saba confront with the motorcycle on the sidewalk and the rider was…

There is a rule of thumb on the use of sidewalk and the Governor of Bangkok is trying to implement the law enforcement toward those wrongdoers. The misuse of sidewalk has become a hazardous social problem as we can always see from the mainstream and in real life such as riding a motorcycle on the sidewalk. Seen from higher perspective, this selfish and undisciplined behavior of the driver reflects a problematic system, not just individual level.

Our job is to speak loudly, and most importantly to ‘Speak the Truth’

Yesterday, we had a chance to show those international reporters both the MRT and BTS stations. I started our conversations with “I am concerned about Thailand’s big picture” and gave a scenario “Mr. Sam who is in a wheelchair and came to Thailand and faced several inconveniences due to the lack of facilities for disabled people. What impressions would he convey back home, about Thailand?” We started our journey from Su-wan-na-phum Thailand International Airport by taking the ARL, then the MRT and finished the journey at A-sok Train Station which is in Bangkok’s Central Business District.

Accessible Parking: Field Observation at Tesco Lotus Khon Khaen Province

A problem and misuse regarding accessible parking exist everywhere else throughout Thailand. For the developer, their major responsibility is to correctly build it according to the legal regulation as well as keep it in good management and maintenance. We’re invited to go to Khon Khaen province for work. It’s such a lovely and unforgettable trip. After the official job, we were on our way and went exploring at a Tesco Lotus. I had made a field observation and met with in-charged people as well as their management executive to discuss this topic of accessible parking. It’s delighted that they’d already recognised this …

“The Smart City” through the eyes of Khon Khaen’s Vice Governor.

Since we had a chance to visit Khon Khan, we couldn’t miss but to meet with the city’s leader. After the official event completed, with the inclusive connection, we finally had an opportunity to meet with the city’s Vice Governor in person. The Khon Kaen’s “Smart City” masterplan is one of many projects in the National Economic and Social Development Plan. The city is going to be elected as the leading model for urban development in every dimension. This is great since making things right at first would reduce any costs of modification in the long-run. Although the time was …
