From a short clip I previously shared without any explanation, today I want to tell you the story behind it…
On August 21, 2024, I had an important meeting to attend. Normally, I prefer to use public transportation whenever possible. Around 2 PM, I arrived at my destination, BTS Ploenchit Station, and had to “walk” another 800 meters.
“On the way there” I discovered that almost all of Witthayu Road was under construction, with sidewalks that were unusable for wheelchairs. I decided to walk on the street, yes, as if I were a vehicle. I’m a runner and with little time left before my appointment, I run very fast, actually very fast.
“On the way back” As the daylight was fading, I returned with a friend who helped record the video we moved a bit slower. Despite this, I had to “run against traffic,” as seen in the clip.
Thailand’s roads, particularly in Bangkok, are ranked among the top 5 most dangerous in the world. I had to use the street 100% for my journey. And when sidewalks are under construction, there’s never a safe alternative route for pedestrians. We’ve neglected this issue for far too long, and I’ve been speaking out about it for 6 years now.
