The disability rights activists and networks issuing a prosecution toward MRT Purple Line. The Declaration of Thailand’s National Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Thailand’s law has been composed clearly regarding the provision of accessible infrastructure and public services. Thailand’s Prime Ministers, from former to current generations, have regarded this as necessity with the responsive awareness from the Minister of Transports.
Although they realise that the provision of accessible infrastructure and its additional supports would approximately account for just less than 3% of a whole project’s cost, and although they recognise that this is such an essential element that every one of us, included the perfectly healthy, might have a chance to use it someday, the provision of accessible infrastructure and its additional supports remains vastly far from its perfection of design and availability in countless places in Thailand.
After the demanding of the PWDs toward the BTS regarding the accessible infrastructure, we have been petitioning, working, cooperating, sharing, and fighting relentlessly. And tomorrow will mark the 23th anniversary of the fight for our rights since the first encounter with the BTS.
The rate of development of Thailand’s transport infrastructure is advancing with an unprecedented pace. The progressive constructions are seen happening throughout the country. However, a new problem exists over an existing one and, unfortunately, the MRT Purple Line is seemingly going on this direction.
Tomorrow, on November 27, 2018, 7:00 am, more than 500 disability rights activists are going to make a prompt gathering and march altogether to the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), Chaeng-wat-ta-na. We then are going to make a prosecution toward the MRT Purple Line and attempt to proclaim the Declaration of Thailand’s National Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The accessible infrastructure would allow PWDs an opportunity to freely go to anywhere. They could take it to go to school, hospital, or workplace. It serves as a means for their self-development and allows the justice to exist. It is an urgent need with no room for wasting time.
I am honoured to say that all media and everyone are greatly welcome to attend the event.
Sharing is caring. Please consider spreading this awareness to make a change to our society. Thank you.
