  • Why should tactile paving be yellow?

Why should tactile paving be yellow?

I’m glad tactile paving is now a standard feature of sidewalks. But I still see blind spots from design to construction. Let’s talk about yellow tactile paving. ISO 23599 only requires visual contrast — no color mandated. Japan’s🇯🇵 JIS T 9251 controls shape and luminance only. Japanese guidelines require luminance ratio ≥2.0 and brightness difference ≥5, and built examples around Japan use a variety of colors. Thailand🇹🇭: ministerial regulations (2005, 2021) only say tactile paving must differ in texture AND color — yellow is never named. So why start with yellow? 1️⃣ Yellow is the traffic warning color. Under ISO…

Stem Cell Treatment for Spinal Cord Injury

I’ve followed this issue for years, so when the news broke, I dug deeper. This is new hope for spinal cord injury stem cell treatment. A Keio University team in Japan 🇯🇵 published in Nature Medicine (July 21, 2026) — the world’s first transplant of iPSC-derived neural stem cells into an injured spinal cord. Follow-up (2–4 years) found no tumors or serious cell-related side effects. There were 84 adverse events, but only one serious…

  • Japan’s 33rd Report on the Situation of Persons with Disabilities

Japan’s 33rd Report on the Situation of Persons with Disabilities

Japan 🇯🇵 just released its Disability White Paper 2026 (Reiwa 8) — the 33rd consecutive edition. Since 1994, the government reports to the Diet every year under the Basic Act for Persons with Disabilities. This tells us society moves forward only when someone measures and reports the truth annually. 33 years is no short time — it’s data accumulation showing long-term trends. This Japan Disability White Paper 2026 hides good news. Private-sector employment of people with disabilities hit a record high for the 22nd consecutive year: actual rate 2.41%, with 46.0% of companies meeting the legal requirement. Some might see…
