[Environment] A Dangerous Intersection.

This image took place at Rama9 interaction. It’s a common scene in Bangkok a local is so used to it. We wondered how to cross the road like this. After scrutiny you would realise that even ordinary people find difficulty in crossing it. The crossing is doubly worse, and almost practically impossible, for PWDs.

Why?

1. The road and footpath is extremely in different level. The ramp that you see is not functional as it’s not seamless or stepless when you go down from footpath. This might crack down any wheelchair users easily.

2. This traffic system of “left-through,” with no pedestrian light, makes it truly difficult and hazardous to cross the road. You may think “But there is a crosswalk.” Well, in reality, sadly, typical Thai driver stops for no one, even Saba.

3. The overall route passageway is not seamless. It wasn’t built FOR ALL at the first place!

Thailand gives too much priority on car rather than pedestrian. In developed countries, it’s totally opposite. They put priority for pedestrian with good footpath, safe crosswalk, and all other seamless journey.

If we want our city to be like that, we may have to stand up and do something to make it!
