Be moved be freedom | Good to see my Dad’s smile

This morning we used CABB taxi, a new player in BKK taxi industry to take my father out of the house. He has Alzheimer’s and a hip fracture, so it is very difficult to go out in a regular car. We usually need to transfer him out of his wheelchair and most taxis have a gas cylinder in the back, so we can’t fit his wheelchair. We use Grab as well, but again, we have to move him physically out of his wheelchair. So in the end, we don’t take him out very much. It makes me sad because my father used to travel frequently for work and he went jogging every day.

I heard about CABB through Accessibility is Freedom. After posting on FB Expats in Thailand forum enquiring about taxi services for wheelchair people, I only got responses from tour companies that charge over 4,000THB for a wheelchair accessible van! Outrageous! There are so many foreigners on retirement visa living in Thailand. Maybe they are all super rich! How about middle-class or low-income Thai with disability or elderly? How do they travel without paying more than others? How can Thailand be more inclusive?

I downloaded CABB App and booked in advance to go to Mall Bangkapi (very close to our house). The driver called us about 30 minutes in advance to let us know he was on the way. When he arrived, he parked outside our house, told us “no need to hurry, it’s fine” and laid down the ramp by hand for the wheelchair. My father’s wheelchair is large, but 3 of us plus him seated in his wheelchair fit comfortably inside. When we reached the Mall, we alighted at the parking area safely and near the ramp. Thank you so much CABB for your kind and affordable service and letting us take my father out! He was smiling and looking around.

We wish you the best in your business, Thanks!
