Four years ago, we recommended improvements to the basic accessible facilities to the management team of Siam Makro, and since then, All Makro in Thailand have significant improved.
During the Songkran holiday, I’m back to my home country in Nong Bua Lam Phu Province and I had the opportunity to check up the accessible restroom.
Overall, the facilities are good. The large restroom signs are visible from the distant, going in and out the room is good. The sliding doors are wide and easy, and the lighting is adequate. Additionally, the exhaust fans are effective.
However, we recommend the following improvements:
1. Emergency signaling system
There is a signal light installed in the bathroom, but I have not tested whether the signal reaches the point where staff is stationed at all times. The emergency assistance button inside the bathroom is installed at a very high level and does not have a cord hanging down.
2. Interior door lock
The current lock is not suitable and should be replaced with a lever handle lock. We have people without hands.
3. The height of light switch
It is too high for some wheelchair users to reach comfortably.
4. Mirrors
The mirrors should be installed at an angle and additional information stickers should be placed in the area that requires their use.
5. The Rail for the front sink is missing.
6. Water taps Should be lever handle style for the same reason as 2.
7. Rail for the front sink / left side
It should be a vertical-foldable one, and installation should be tested to ensure it is stable and does not wobble.
9. The rail for the toilet / right side : Same reason is the same as 7.
10. Trash bin
Trash bin requires stepping on it to open, which may not be convenient for wheelchair users. It should be a top-opening one.
11. Cushioned seat There is no cushioned seat available.
12. Bidet sprayer Everyone has requested a bidet sprayer.
13. Rail installation / the distant
On the left and right sides, as we can see the distant looks strange.
