An official letter in rejection on the use of platform lift since 2015 (Were submitted to Minister of Transport)

On October 1, 2015, the representatives from Transportation For All organisation (T4A) handed an official documents to the Minister of Transport, then Mr. Arkom Termpitayapaisit, in regard to the inaccessibility and inefficiency of the overall transportations in Thailand.

Parts of the documents included an official letter in rejection of the use of “platform lift.” We investigated and found that there were new installations of platform lift on 3 new stations on the Purple Line Train.

When you face great physical hindrance with seemingly no alternative solutions for inclusive accessibility, setting up a table of discussion to frankly exchange thoughts with “affected people” is the first step to achieve satisfactory results for all.

To have full accessibility, there are wide range of options and practices to choose from. Yet, it must first begin with a fundamental principle, a right mindset within, that’s “to be the best” for everyone and the country. This is in extreme contrary from a mediocre mindset to “just achieve a minimum” requirements written in law papers.

What we have done now will have a lasting impacts till our next generations. Would they praise or blame us? It depends on the choice we make today.
